The Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created from Barbadian rums between 12 and 20 years. After the base, Barbadian ageing (8-10 years), they were rested for another 2-10 years in France, in several different casks (new-made white oak, bourbon and Ferrand cognac). The blending also takes place at Ferrand's central estate (Chateau de Bonbonnet), the result is a quite round and creamy rum, which has a wonderful mahogany colour.
Cognac Ferrand has long been at home in the Caribbean region, since it sells distilleries casks which previously contained cognac. The company's head, Alexandre Gabriel, thus had the opportunity to also taste such rare and old rums, which either belonged to the cellar masters' own stocks, or served for the formation of the character, the flavouring of the standard rums. So it happened that Ferrand decided on the bottling and release of rare vintage rums. And so the Plantation rum brand was also born, which today releases several kinds of vintage rum, as well as blended rum. Each release perfectly presents the terroir of its origin territory. The Plantation rums go through a unique, double ageing process. During this they are first aged at their place of production, usually in young bourbon casks, then in France at the Ferrand estate they are transferred to small-sized casks for further resting. This ageing technique widespread in the 18-19th century was revived by Alexandre Gabriel. The damp, warm climate lays down the rich, juicy aromas, and the French cask post-ageing provides elegance, refinement, roundness for these rums.
