The Chapel Down Grand Reserve 2018 is an exceptional-vintage English sparkling wine, a blend of the three great sparkling wine varieties — Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The Chardonnay white variety, which provides fruity notes and an elegant finish, was combined with two red varieties, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, for greater body and cohesion. The flavor profile of this rich, complex and elegant sparkling wine is defined by the complex aromas of ripe apple, red berry fruits and toasted brioche, complemented by a generous finish.
Chapel Down Grand Reserve undergoes cool fermentation in stainless-steel tanks, followed by full malolactic conversion. The wine ferments partly in barrel and partly in tank, which lends it complexity and depth. Before bottling, it ages 6 months in tank on fine lees, and continues with at least three further years of ageing on the lees in bottle.
