Biondi Santi Brunello di Montalcino 2018 (0,75L 13,5%)
Name: Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino 2018 (DOCG)
Grape variety: 100% Sangiovese Grosso
Alcohol: 13.5% vol.
Aroma & flavor profile
Deep ruby-red base color, with fine garnet reflexes.
The nose features wild blackberry, sour cherry, forest raspberry, dried rose and violet. Nutty and tobacco tones, as well as a light herbal vein (peppery, minty shade) enrich it.
Concentrated yet refined on the palate: vivid acid structure holds the fruity, citrusy and forest notes. Rounded tannins, finely smoothed; at the end of the sip, mild bittersweet orange peel and minerality can be observed.
Structure, ageing & style
Long barrel ageing — in large Slavonian oak barrels — which helps integrate the flavors and soften the texture.
The vintage was characterized by cooler weather, which gave freshness and tauter acids to the wine.
Medium-to-full body, excellent balance between fruit, acid and tannin — yet not heavy, rather elegant and silky.
Recommended pairing & serving
Rich meat dishes, lamb roast or beef steak, game dishes — especially with mushroom or hearty sauces.
Aged hard cheeses pair well — pecorino, parmesan, or even mild-aroma herrings.
Ideal serving temperature approx. 18 °C.
Already enjoyable now, but there will be another 8-15 years of ageing potential — its aromas and texture will only become richer over time.
