Famille Hugel Pinot Gris Sélection de Grains Nobles 1999 (0,75L 9,5%)
Famille Hugel Pinot Gris Sélection de Grains Nobles AOC Alsace Blanc 1999 (0.75L)
One of Famille Hugel's most prestigious wines, representing the pinnacle of the "Sélection de Grains Nobles" (SGN) category. This rare and exceptional wine is made exclusively from carefully selected, noble-rot-affected (Botrytis cinerea) shriveled berries, with extraordinary concentration and depth.
The 1999 vintage is considered legendary in Alsace for sweet wines: botrytis developed under ideal conditions, so the wine is rich, complex and exceptionally long-lived. This bottling is now a true rarity and collector's piece.
Nose and palate:
Astonishingly complex aromatics: notes of dried apricot, candied orange peel, honey, caramel, date, fig and toasted hazelnut unfold. With long bottle ageing, fine tobacco, spicy, gently mushroomy and forest-floor tones also emerge. The palate is exceptionally concentrated, oily-textured, deep and velvety; the high sugar content is balanced by vibrant acidity. The finish is virtually endless.
