The making of Courvoisier is a fine mixture of art and science, which combines the old techniques with new technologies. The history of Courvoisier began in Paris in the early 1800s with their founders, Louis Gallois and Emmanuel Courvoisier. In the suburb of Paris, in Bercy, they founded a spirits shop. The enterprise flourished and they won medals, as well as the love of Paris and the respect of Emperor Napoleon III, who chose them as his sole official cognac maker. In 1828 Courvoisier and Gallois became known simply as Courvoisier, since the company focused on its true passion: producing cognac. They moved the company from Paris to Jarnac, on the bank of the Charente river, in the heart of the Cognac region.

The fame of Courvoisier grew so quickly that its warehouses in Bercy were visited by the emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. After this they served their cognac not only in France, but also at the Danish royal courts, the tables of England and Sweden.

The Essence de Courvoisier is a blend of extraordinarily special and rare cognac sets, which originate from the early 1900s, providing depth and harmony. These are complemented with later twentieth-century cognac, whose innovations are counted among the techniques of distillation and cask-making.

L'Essence de Courvoisier is a precious cognac, which sets the senses on fire. Its aroma begins with the fine tasting of sandalwood and cigar leaf, then with caramel, marzipan and fresh honey, then finishes with the fine perfume of summer blooms.

In its flavour liquorice root, dried plum and apricot, full-bodied and rich, builds up with such an intoxicating intensity, which remains in the mouth for an eternity.

Poured into a teardrop-shaped Baccarat bottle. The Baccarat glass was hand-carved by more than 30 craftsmen. Napoleon Bonaparte gave a unique limited signet ring to his bravest commanders, to motivate them for ever greater victory. The design of the finely crafted crystal stopper of the L'Essence de Courvoisier was inspired by these rings.
