The AH Riise distillery is found on the island of St. Thomas, which is green among the Virgin Islands, in the Caribbean region. Before it joined the United States, the island was inhabited by a Danish colony. In 1840 the young Danish pharmacist living in the colony, Albert Heinrich Riise, began distilling alcohol, first for medicinal purposes. From this grew the production of the now worldwide-known A. H. Riise rums. The distillation is done with special attention, according to the 150-year traditions, so these rums are known as one of the best among the - not few - rum-makers of the region. The hand-blended AH Riise XO Reserve rum, which also contains 20-year distillates, is one of the flagships of the producer, so it is at once one of the best rums of the region too. The product, available in limited quantity, is bottled with the single barrel method, and on the bottles the number of the given barrel and the time of bottling are also indicated.
A spicy, full yet fresh rum, whose flavour profile is characterised, alongside the sweetness, by fruitiness too. The caramel, sweet character is richly felt in it, a honeyed, distinctly sugary sweetness, which is followed by its oaky notes gained during the ageing. Its finish is truly memorable.
